The Fourteenth Century Chateau du Breuil was the official residence of the Dombes governors. It presents a perfect historical and welcoming environment for members and visitors with the imposing courtyard surrounded by walls covered in climbing roses, invested with a fine stone staircase and ceilings with imposing fireplaces and mullioned windows. In contrast the very English atmosphere of the main bar furnished in Chesterfield is nevertheless appropriate to conversation and reference to the nineteenth hole. The Club House restaurant and terrace allow a quick and appetising service provided with fresh local products from the market. Even during poor weather the Club house provides rooms for reading, bridge, billiards and television. Altogether the chateau gives the appeal of a large and impressive country house. If you wish to be pampered, play good golf, fish a little, eat and drink well, then look no further. Whether you come for a day, weekend, a week or even longer you will enjoy this superb experience. Le Gouverneur is situated in the heart of the region known as La Dombes between Bourg-en-Bresse and Lyon and skirted by Beaujolais country. La Dombes has more than 1000 lakes (most of them seem to be around the golf courses) teeming with fish and bird life. The clubhouse and hotel have been created around the 14th century Chateau du Breuil and adjacent buildings. The only modern addition is the reception areas of the hotel built with a reflecting glass exterior. What more can one say, the estate comprises 230 hectares, 45 challenging golf holes, 65 hectares of fishing with carp, pike and black bass, Corinne Soulès golf academy, 4 years French lady champion and the gourmet restaurant d'Antigny. There are many places of interest within easy driving distance including the medieval village of Perouges where President Chirac entertained President Clinton for lunch in 1996.
